Paper wasps under eaves and patio covers are a fact of life in Bakersfield from spring through fall, and yellowjackets that nest in the ground or inside wall voids are the ones that send people to urgent care. Knocking a nest down with a broom or a hardware-store spray is how most of the stings we hear about happen.

We remove wasp, hornet, and yellowjacket nests with the right equipment and protective gear, treat the nest site so it is not rebuilt, and can set up preventive eave treatments in spring before nests get established. Honey bees are handled differently: where a swarm can be relocated we will help you connect with a keeper, and structural honey bee removal is scoped separately.

Bee & Wasp Removal questions

What is the difference between a wasp and a bee?

Wasps are slender with a narrow waist and smooth bodies; bees are rounder and fuzzy. Paper wasps build the open, umbrella-shaped nests you see under eaves. Yellowjackets are aggressive, nest underground or in walls, and are the ones that swarm barbecues in late summer.

Can I remove a wasp nest myself?

Small early-season paper wasp nests can sometimes be handled at dusk with caution. Anything larger, any yellowjacket nest, or any nest inside a wall should be done professionally; wall-void nests in particular can hold thousands of insects.

Do you kill honey bees?

Not if it can be avoided. Honey bees are important pollinators, and swarms resting on a branch usually leave on their own within a day or two. Bees living inside a wall need the comb removed, and we will explain the options.

When are yellowjackets worst?

August through October. Colonies are at peak size and the workers shift from hunting insects to scavenging sugar and meat, which is why they show up at every outdoor meal.
